Gracia Amor Bags Two Media Awards in 2012

It is no easy feat to be recognized for one’s work in enhancing the image of the overseas Filipinos  and migrants. Achieving one is already a great accomplishment but bagging two in the same year is a proof of one’s ability to excel!

Such is the feat which Gracia Amor has achieved and which she was notified one after another within a span of a few days in the past week. First is the ‘Outstanding OFW and Balikbayan Reputation Award’ (OBRA) representing the Filipino Blogger Category bestowed on her by the Ex-link Management and Marketing Services Corporation and second is as ‘Winner for the Interactive Media Award,’ one of the second Migration Advocacy and Media Awards chosen by the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO).

Awarding Ceremony for the first will be held on December 7, 2012 at SM Mega Mall, Mega Trade Hall 2 & 3, Stage Area and the second will be at SSS Magsaysay Hall in Quezon City on December 18, 2012.

Gracia is the Founder and current President of the Filipino Bloggers in Kuwait (FBK). She blogs through her ‘Diary ni Gracia’ (Click here to visit her blog) and has been openly encouraging Filipinos to use the modern Information Technology to reach out to others through writing or what has been popularly known as blogging.

Says she in her blog:

I am passionate about motivating, boosting one’s morale of any age or specific setting and so I continue to explore developing in that field. . . Writing has been part of me since I was in high school, but it is only in recent years that I have been pursuing it because I found out that my knowledge and experience are invaluable in this age of information and rapidly changing technology. . . Discovering that God has granted me an excellent writing knowledge, I feel obliged to enhance it in the months and years to come, especially on Spirituality, OFW, Love, Leadership and Management issues”.

In the short time that I have known Gracia – discovered her through Facebook a few months ago this year – she has encouraged me to make serious of my writing talent through the creation of a blog or website under my own domain name. Had it not been for her, I would have not been into this blogging thing. Although a veteran writer (been writing since 1982), I never had been that serious in acquiring my very own site.

I join the rest of the members of the Filipino Bloggers in Kuwait in expressing our elation with these two awards she has achieved. Congratulations Gracia! We are very proud of you!

About Author

Freda Editha O. Contreras
Writing is a God-given talent which I try to utilize the good way. I used it as a means to earn a living, my very first job after graduating from college, when I got hired as an Information Writer by the Provincial Government of Antique through Governor Enrique A. Zaldivar in January 1982. By profession, I am a Registered Nurse, and was only able to practice it when I got recruited to work in a private hospital in Kuwait. This was in November 1987 and since then I have been living in Kuwait, now retired since June 2002. Because of my knack in writing I got hired in 1994 to write for Kuwait Times and later became an Editor of 'Pinoy News' a weekly supplement of KT. In March 1996 I published the very first independent Filipino newspaper in Kuwait and the Gulf bannered as Pinoy Expat News or PEN. The paper lasted for only 10 weekly issues. This was followed by another publication and came out first as an insert of an ad paper and later as a separate tabloid. I used then 'Pinoy News' as it was my idea the first time it was used for Kuwait Times. This again failed and produced only three weekly issues. I then turned to the Internet and in 1999 I got hired as a Contributing Editor of, a writers' portal on the web. The last of my articles was published December 31, 2002 but my topic 'Overseas Filipino Workers' was still visible until January 2006. All the 38 articles I wrote have been compiled into a book which I published in August 2007. I discovered blogging in 2006 but was not really serious about my writing. I wrote according to my whim. Having this blog under my own domain name is now a welcome development and I plan to concentrate again in writing. As is commonly said: "A writer will always be a writer."
